Last week I listened to two audio books that got me riled up! I wanted to enter the story exactly like the super readers do in Super Why and help the tortured women, lol!
First of all I did not intentionally pick these. If I had read the blurb to
I would have seen it had to do with a cult investigation and would have prepared my stomach for the sick minds of the leaders. I have to hand it to the author who did a great job creating this awful group lol! I was actually googling to see if The Children of Righteous Cain actually existed 😂 !! Talk about getting fantasy mixed with reality! It had me in suspense but it was hard to swallow the way they treated the women. I found this book through kindle Unlimited (I have a free 6 month trial so I am trying to see if it’s worth getting KU membership) and have been wanting to check out Carole Brown’s mysteries. Some KU have free audio others you can get at a discount price. I wasn’t sure if I get to keep the audio books if purchased, so I experimented with this one that was $1.99! I figured it be a good way to check out an author I was interested in and KU perks. Yes I got to keep the audio and yes I will be checking out her other novels! It was captivating but I am rating it a 4 star only because at one point it seems like Caralynne stages a murder in revenge for a friend and gets away with it. Granted she was under strained circumstances it’s hard to blame her but she should have left this evil sect to God. See how caught up I was in this?! I’m getting emotional recounting the story lol! The narrator was okay.
The second audio I heard was
Which I bought in December so I had read the blurb. But nothing could have prepared me for this book, I believe my mind is still trying to process it, lol! She also gets mistreated by her husband which I wasn’t expecting because the back makes it seem like she’s a single mom who re-marries and she dreams of becoming a doctor. I figured she was widowed and didn’t know I was entering a horrible marriage in the beginning. It was engaging but the ending left me…..depressed and unsatisfied. I seriously had to put on happy music by For King and Country to shake off my melancholy state lol! Are there any Jane Kirkpatrick fans out there? Are all her books like this? I own three hard books by her that I found on sale and I’m seriously scared to read them! Don’t get me wrong she’s good, just sadly realistic. I read fiction to escape real-world so this was not my kind of book, as good as it was. Sort of like Karen Kingsbury. Anyone read her books? My sisters are huge fans of her but I can’t read her books. I believe I read three then said ‘no more’. I can’t torture myself this way. It’s like I have to mentally prepare myself for her books. I know she’s a great author and if you like her you would probably like this book by Jane Kirkpatrick. It’s similar fashion but in historical time line. I rate it 3.75 which is good considering my internal conflict. On Amazon it has a rating of 4.5 stars from 143 reviews! 62% rate it a 5 star so don’t let my sadness stop you from checking it out lol.
Gosh, this is the longest review I’ve done on audio books, but they really took me by surprise 😲!!!
